MY THINKING

influence

I always had a passion for surreal art as I can display images that can’t be captured in real life. The amount of imagination and unconscious dreams allow me to create endless ideas with no boundaries. I like to use my dream journal to transform them from my subconscious into experimental art works.

I also like symbolism; ideas through symbols and emphasize the meaning behind the forms, lines, shapes, and colors. The movement being at the forefront of modernism, and developed by abstract means to express psychological truth and the idea behind the physical world; such as dreams and visions. It is the emphasis on emotions, feelings, ideas, and subjectivity rather than realism.

SOMNIUM

This painting illustrates some of my recurrent dreams and nightmares during the past year (2017).

Many of the objects and themes are things I saw or elements that remind me of certain memories that resonated at the time when I experienced them; flowing mushrooms, a rabbit cookie jar, a bamboo dragonfly, a burning candle, love locks, a ceramic rose, an octopus head girl with a jacket made of human fat, tree trunks, a fragment of the Hellenic statue of Ariadne. They are all underlying messages from my unconscious mind and telling stories through movements of lines.

The painting’s inspiration and timeline is largely unplanned as each element in the illustration has been created after a particular dream that resonated with me. There were times I would paint for a few days while during other periods the board would rest untouched for many weeks.

CANVAS - ONE

TITLE 1. UNSPOKEN

Dreams can be a rich source of inner wisdom, I feel the best of my creative ideas occur when I sleep. Dream interpretations into the unconscious mind.

I always have vivid dreams and have been sketching/painting them down. Those dreams form the basis of this painting. This painting was inspired by actual dreams - July 2014, few months before I visited Barcelona.

Seven honey bees were playing and giggling while there was a big green bottle of dishwasher detergent that I squeezed pouring liquid on them. The green detergent turned to golden yellow honey while it covered the bees as they flew by... at the end the honey turned into caterpillar that filled with words of my thoughts.

WATERCOLOR - DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES

I found many symbols in my unconscious mind that might mean similar things or connections to my surroundings of the past, present or even future. I am trying to understand these symbols, and interpret them.

This sketch was inspired and based by few actual dreams.

This sketch was based on a dream; no matter if I was inside or outside, upstairs or downstairs, I ran and ran till I fell down on the ground... I kept finding myself back to the same spot. I waited and waited in my dream for this nightmare to be over.
